A youth was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his home in Madhya Badda, Dhaka, on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Sanjay Chandra Das, 34, son of the late Khir Mohan Chandra Das and resident of Madhya Badda.
He was rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 6:30pm, where doctors declared him dead.
His nephew, Tushar Chandra Das, said Sanjay had been living in Germany before returning to Bangladesh six months ago to settle permanently.
He said Sanjay's marriage was being arranged and that he had visited a prospective bride's family earlier this week. The bride's family was scheduled to visit their home next Wednesday.
Tushar said Sanjay locked himself in his room on Saturday afternoon and allegedly hanged himself from a ceiling fan using a piece of cloth. Family members later broke down the door and rescued him.
However, relatives could not determine what prompted him to take his own life.
Inspector Habibur Rahman, in-charge of the DMCH police outpost, said the body had been kept at the hospital morgue and the relevant police station had been informed.
