Former social welfare minister and MP Dr Dipu Moni’s daughter, Tani Deepavali Nawaz, went to the Munshiganj Deputy Commissioner’s office on Wednesday to submit an application seeking her mother’s release on parole.
The application was filed following the death of Barrister Toufiq Nawaz, Dipu Moni’s husband and an Awami League leader.
At around 1:45pm, Deepavali met Additional District Commissioner Rezaul Karim and submitted the application. She has sought four days’ parole for her mother, according to her lawyer.
Dipu Moni’s lawyer Gazi Faisal Islam confirmed the matter. He said Deepavali had earlier visited her mother at Munshiganj District Jail around noon.
After leaving the jail, Deepabali went to the district administration office to submit the parole application.
Barrister Toufiq Nawaz, husband of former social welfare and education minister and MP Dr Dipu Moni, died at a private hospital on Tuesday night while undergoing treatment.
Dipu Moni is currently in Munshiganj District Jail.
Munshiganj District Jail Superintendent Md Jannat-ul Farhad earlier said the authorities had not yet received any parole application.
He added that if an application is received, further action will be taken in accordance with the rules.
