Saiful Haque, a leader of the Biplobi Workers Party of Bangladesh and Ganatantra Mancha, has said that the spirit of '71 seems to have returned once again through the current uprising.
He said: “The Awami League has turned Sheikh Hasina into an authoritarian ruler. We demand a change in this system. It is now necessary to reform the constitution and the state structure and to end the discrimination against ethnic minorities and communal groups. We must fulfil the commitment to social justice made during the Liberation War."
He made these remarks on Monday at a gathering in Gaibandha’s Shaheed Minar, organized in remembrance of the martyrs of the people’s uprising.
Saiful Haque further said, "The history of this country did not begin in 2024. Our heritage includes the 1952, 1954, and 1971 movements, as well as the anti-Ershad movement. Over the past 16 years, the people of Bangladesh have risen again, fighting against the Awami League's authoritarian rule. Our glory lies in our Liberation War, and we must uphold that. Only then will there be no discrimination."
The event, organized by the district committee of the Revolutionary Workers Party, was presided over by District Secretary Firoz Ahmed, with special guests including Politburo members Bahni Shikha Jamali, Akbar Khan, and Ansar Ali Dulal.
