In anticipation of political rallies in Dhaka, rigorous police search activities have been initiated at Aminbazar, the gateway to Dhaka.
Pedestrians attempting to enter Dhaka are being questioned individually. Those unable to provide satisfactory answers are temporarily detained for initial interrogation.
The checkpoint and search operation commenced in front of the Aminbazar 20-bed Hospital on the Dhaka-Aricha highway from 7am on Saturday.
Police officers are checking the destinations of passengers by inspecting vehicles, and pedestrians are subjected to similar inquiries. Individuals unable to respond adequately are escorted to the Aminbazar 20-bed Hospital, where over a hundred people have been held so far.
Dhaka district Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime, Traffic, and Ops) Abdullah Hil Kafi said that the intensified operation is in response to two political parties gathering in the capital.
Checkpoints have been set up in Ashulia, Birulia, and Aminbazar in Savar.
He clarified that individuals detained are suspected individuals and those against whom there are legal cases. They are being held temporarily for questioning and clarification.
