BNP Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu has urged Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to resign from her seat, warning that she would otherwise witness a movement like none seen in the country in the last 52 years of its history.
The BNP leader was addressing a rally organized by the Dhaka North unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Workers' Party in front of the National Press Club on Monday.
The program was organized to protest rises in the prices of essential commodities, including oil, gas, and electricity, as well as to call for the unconditional release of all BNP prisoners, including BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and Member Secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP Rafiqul Alam Majnu.
Dudu said the ongoing political crisis of the country may throw the Awami League government into great danger.
Addressing the prime minister, he further said: “We do not want to put you in danger. We want to give you the opportunity to leave with dignity and admit your mistakes to the people."
The BNP leader also claimed that the current government had led the country into a terrible situation unlike any seen since its birth.
He said: “The government has seriously endangered the freedom of the country. The existence of the country has been threatened and this government should resign. Parliament must be dissolved through the resignation of this government.”
Referring to the new visa policy of the United States, he said: “The American government has announced a visa policy. This visa policy was sent to the government on May 3, but the government admitted it only three days ago.
“I will say, it has not been disclosed by the government. We came to know after the US minister tweeted. The American government has created this new visa policy only for Bangladesh,” he added.
