Barrister Asaduzzaman Fuaad, secretary general of the AB Party, has claimed that the state has shown indifference towards the martyrs of the July uprising.
He made the remark on Wednesday while addressing a human chain in front of the National Press Club, organised by Barisal Society to demand the construction of a six-lane highway from Bhanga to Kuakata, address poverty alleviation, employment generation and necessary development in Barisal division.
Fuaad said: “We would like to remind the interim government that the blood of every martyr in Bangladesh holds equal value, whether they are from Barisal, Chittagong or Dhaka.
"We have learned that over 37 individuals were martyred in Barisal division during the July uprising. I have personally visited the graves of several of them. Regrettably, the promises made by the administration and interim government during their funerals have not been fulfilled. The state has remained indifferent to the sacrifices of the martyrs of the July uprising.”
Addressing the interim government, he further said: “Each martyr of this uprising represents a cornerstone in the foundation of rebuilding Bangladesh. The manner in which you treat the martyrs and their families, and how you honour their lives and sacrifices, will ultimately reflect your sincerity or lack thereof before the people of Bangladesh.”
He added: “The essence of a mass uprising lies in ensuring how people of all divisions and regions are uplifted from poverty and how the lives of citizens are made more dignified and comfortable on the basis of justice and equality.”
