The High Court has set Thursday for passing an order on a writ petition seeking an investigation into the activities of the interim government led by former chief adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus during its 18-month tenure.

A High Court bench comprising Justice Ahmed Sohel and Justice Fatema Anwar fixed the date on Sunday after hearing the petition.

Senior lawyer MK Rahman and petitioner lawyer Muhammad Mohsin Rashid appeared for the writ petitioner, while Attorney General Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal represented the state.

Speaking to reporters afterwards, MK Rahman said the writ had sought an investigation into the activities of Dr Yunus during the 18 months of the interim government.

“They created a state of disorder in every sector, including the economy and health,” he said.

Rahman said it was necessary to form a commission under the Commissions of Inquiry Act 1956 so that no elected government could be overthrown in future.

“The court heard the matter. The attorney general was also present. Thursday has been fixed for the order,” he added.

Muhammad Mohsin Rashid said they had sought a full investigation into the events that took place during the period.

“The government will decide how the investigation will be conducted,” he said. “The attorney general said he would come after taking instructions. We also want him to come after receiving instructions.”
