BNP declares demo as Fakhrul, others denied bail

This would be BNP’s first program in front of their central office after its closure following police raid on the office

The BNP will stage a demonstration in the capital today protesting the arrest of party leaders and activists, including its Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who were denied bail by a Dhaka court on Monday.

The demonstration will be held at 2pm in front of the party's central office at Naya Paltan. 

Standing Committee Member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain announced the program at a press conference at its central office on Monday. . 

Besides, BNP's city and district units will hold mass processions today as per their announcement made at the Golapbagh mass rally on Saturday. 

This would be BNP's first program in front of their central office after its closure following a police raid on December 7. The party office was reopened on Sunday.

At the Golapbagh rally, the BNP declared a 10-point demand. A day later, BNP lawmakers submitted their resignation to Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and six of the seven applications were accepted.

Meanwhile, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shafiuddin rejected the bail petition of 224 leaders and activists of BNP, including Mirza Fakhrul and Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas, in a case over the clash between police and the party activists in the capital that left one dead and around 20 others injured on December 7. 

The other BNP leaders who were denied bail include Abdus Salam, the Dhaka south city unit BNP convener, Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie and the party's publication secretary, Khairul Kabir Khokon.

On December 8, a Dhaka court sent 445 BNP leaders and activists, including Annie and Salam, to jail in two cases filed over the December 7 violence.
