A 24-year-old man was killed after being hit by an unidentified vehicle in the capital’s Naya Paltan area early Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Mizan Howlader, son of Mafiz Howlader of Kabpurkathi village in Dashmina upazila of Patuakhali.
Paltan police station Sub-Inspector Md Jahid Hasan Nirob said Mizan was hit by an unidentified vehicle in front of Naya Paltan Gazi Shopping Complex around 5am.
Police suspect the vehicle may have been a truck, as trucks often travel at high speeds in the area during the early morning. Efforts are underway to identify the vehicle involved, the officer said.
Police recovered the body from the scene and sent it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital at 6:45am for autopsy after completing the necessary legal procedures.
The officer said no one at the scene could initially identify the deceased. Later, the CID Crime Scene Unit was informed and identified him through fingerprint analysis.
“The deceased’s relatives are being informed, and further procedures are ongoing,” he said.
