The 30th national council of Chhatra League, the student wing of the ruling Awami League, will be held on December 6.
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader confirmed the matter on Sunday.
The council was initially scheduled to be held on December 3 but was later postponed on the instructions of Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Sources at the time said Sheikh Hasina was scheduled to visit Japan on the day of the conference.
However, the prime minister's state visit to Japan was cancelled later on.
Chhatra League held its last council, its 29th one, in May 2018.
In July of that year, Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon and Golam Rabbani became president and general secretary of the organization. They lost their positions in September 2019 over various allegations, including extortion in development projects.
Later, Al-Nahean Khan Joy and Lekhak Bhattacharya became acting president and acting general secretary of the Chhatra League.
On January 4, 2020, on the founding anniversary of the Chhatra League, Joy and Lekhak became president and general secretary. Since then they have been serving as the two top leaders of the organization.
But their record has not been spotless. Several leaders and activists of the Chhatra League have demanded a new council several times.
