Police have arrested former Jatiya Party lawmaker of Nilphamari-4 constituency Shawkat Chowdhury.
Also a former whip, Shawkat was arrested from his Dhaka residence early on Sunday and taken to Saidpur, said Officer-in-Charge Abul Hasnat.
According to police sources, Shawkat has been arrested in a case filed over monetary transactions.
Rangpur-1 lawmaker Moshiur Rahman Ranga’s personal assistant filed the case with a Rangpur court.

Earlier in 2016, the ACC filed two cases against Shawkat over embezzlement.
Shawkat was elected a member of parliament for the first time from Nilphamari-4 from Jatiya Party in 2014. He later became the opposition whip and convener of the district unit of the party.
He was the general secretary of the BNP’s Saidpur unit before joining the Jatiya Party.
Shawkat joined the BNP again in January this year after he was denied Jatiya Party nomination for the 11th general elections in 2019.
