Joy, Lekhak now Chhatra League president, gen secy

Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina made the declaration on Saturday

Al-Nahean Khan Joy and Lekhak Bhattacharjee have formally been declared president and general secretary respectively of Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student wing of the Awami League.

Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina made the declaration at the end of her speech at the reunion program at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka on Saturday, marking the 72nd founding anniversary of Chhatra League. 

At the program, party General Secretary Obaidul Quader proposed  removing the word "acting" from the posts of Joy and Lekhak. 

In her speech, the Awami League chief said:" Obaidul Quader has made the proposal and I have relieved them from their acting posts. From now on, Joy is the president of Chhatra League and Lekhak is its general secretary." 

On September 14, 2019, Al-Nahean Khan Joy and Lekhak Bhattacharjee were made the student body's acting president and acting general secretary soon after then president Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon and general secretary Golam Rabbani were removed from the posts.

Awami League Central Working Committee took the decision in a meeting with party chief and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair at Ganabhaban.

The decision was taken at a time when a severe image crisis was ongoing against the ruling party's student wing.
