Leaders and activists of the Ershad-led Jatiya Party (JaPa) locked horns before the party’s secretary general ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader during a council of party activists in the Engineers Institution auditorium in Chittagong Friday afternoon.
According to witnesses, two opposing groups, one led by JaPa Vice Chairman Mehjabeen Murshed and the other by JaPa presidium member and Chittagong city unit convener Solaiman Alam Seth, locked into a scuffle. At one stage, the aggrieved activists and leaders started hurling chairs at one another.
The witnesses said the incident took place over establishing supremacy and delivering speech at the event.
Asked, Mehjabeen claimed: “It was a big gathering and people from all over the district joined the council. It was kind of difficult for us to give everyone the opportunity to deliver speech. As a result, those who did not get the opportunity to address the program tried to create chaos.”
Solaiman did not answer the phone despite repeated attempts to reach him for his comments. This article was taken from banglatribune.com
