Professor Dr Mohammad Ali Jinnah appointed as Pro-VC of National University

He earned a PhD from University of Science Malaysia

Professor Dr Mohammad Ali Jinnah, a faculty member of the Institute of Education and Research (IER) at the University of Dhaka, has been appointed as the new Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Pro-VC) of the National University.

The Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education issued the official notification for the appointment on June 9, 2026, under Section 13(1) of the National University Act, 1992, with the approval of the President and Chancellor, said a press release.

He assumed office at the National University’s Dhanmondi administrative office on the same day. The Vice-Chancellor of the National University, Professor Dr. ASM Amanullah, welcomed and congratulated the newly appointed Pro-VC. Among others present were the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Dr. ATM Zafrul Azam, the Registrar, department heads, teachers, and senior officials.

Dr Mohammad Ali Jinnah is a prominent education researcher in Bangladesh. He completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in History and later earned a master’s degree in Education from the University of Dhaka. He obtained his PhD from the University of Science, Malaysia in 2010.

He has been officially approved as a UNE Chair at the University of Dhaka, marking a notable achievement in Bangladesh’s higher education sector. His research focuses on quality education and teacher professional development.

Dr Jinnah is also a member of the National Curriculum Committee (NCC) for primary and secondary education. He has led a five-year international research project on “Gender and Inclusive Pedagogy” covering Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Vietnam, and Timor-Leste, funded by IDRC Canada and global education partners.

He has completed multiple research projects funded by the World Bank, British Council, UNODC, Save the Children, and the Government of Bangladesh. He has also participated in numerous national and international seminars and served as a consultant on Outcome-Based Education (OBE) implementation in various universities.
