Four members of a family were killed when a landslide struck their home during heavy rainfall in Lakkhanaband Union of Golapganj Upazila of Sylhet.
The incident occurred around 2am on Sunday in the Bakhtiarghat area.
The victims were asleep when the hillside collapsed onto their residence.
The deceased were identified as Md Riaz Uddin, 55, son of the late Asid Ali, his wife Rahima Begum, 40, their daughter Samia, 14 and son Ali Abbas, 9,
They all are the residents of Bakhtiarghat.
It took approximately three hours for the Fire Service to reach the location due to severe waterlogging in Dhakadakshin and a large tree that had fallen on the road at Rakhalganj Bazaar, blocking access.
Additionally, lightning strikes caused gas riser explosions in several areas, including Hetimganj in Fulbari Union and the Dhakadakshin Bypass, leading to small fires which further delayed emergency response.
Golapganj Model police station’s Officer-in-Charge (Administration) Mohammad Moniruzzaman Mollah, said police rushed to the spot upon receiving information and recovered the bodies.
Official inquest reports were prepared and the bodies were handed over to relatives for burial, the OC added.
A similar tragedy occurred two years ago in Lakkhanaband Union, where a landslide during heavy rain claimed the lives of two members of another family.
