A robbery took place on a passenger bus in broad daylight on the Dhaka-Aricha highway in Savar.

The incident occurred around noon on Friday in the Police Town area of the upazila.

At least three passengers were injured as they tried to resist the robbers, who attacked them with sharp weapons.

The injured have been sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in Dhaka.

According to eyewitnesses, the robbery took place on a Shubho Jatra Paribahan bus traveling from Manikganj to Dhaka.

At around 12:30pm, as the bus approached Police Town, the driver stopped to pick up passengers. At this moment, two individuals armed with small sharp knives boarded the bus.

Upon entering, they searched the passengers at the front, forcibly taking mobile phones, wallets, and even a gold chain from a female passenger.

As they moved towards the back of the bus, some passengers attempted to resist. In response, the robbers attacked them with their knives, injuring several passengers.

They then quickly fled the bus.

A female passenger who fell victim to the robbery said: "I boarded the bus at Dairy Gate in Savar to travel to Dhanmondi. After passing Bank Town, two robbers got on the bus, initially saying that they would only take valuables from two people and leave others alone. However, they ended up snatching mobile phones, wallets, and my gold chain from multiple passengers. When someone resisted, others joined in, leading the robbers to stab several passengers before escaping."

Another passenger, Alqama Azad, said: "The bus had stopped near a bridge between Bank Town and Police Town to pick up passengers. That’s when two robbers with knives boarded and started looting mobile phones, wallets, and jewelry. When they moved to the back of the bus, a few passengers tried to stop them. As some passengers attempted to catch them, they stabbed three individuals, including the driver’s assistant. Two suffered severe leg injuries, while another sustained a deep cut on the hand. The robbers then fled the scene. There were around 15-20 passengers on the bus at the time."

Savar Model police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Jewel Miah said: "Upon receiving information about the robbery, a police team was immediately dispatched to the scene. However, we have not yet received any formal complaints."
