Seven workers were burned in an explosion caused by a gas leak in Sonargaon, Narayanganj.
They were rescued and admitted to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
The incident took place on Monday at around 11pm in front of the Lovely Cinema Hall in Sonapur, Kanchpur, under Sonargaon upazila.
The injured workers are Md Joy, 20, Md Jahangir Alam, 45, Sultan, 23, Raju, 24, Md Mizan, 35, Ripon, 38, and Md Shahjalal, 45. While two of the victims are out of danger, five others are in critical condition.
A witness named Rubel said that the workers were installing a pipe on the road in front of the Lovely Cinema Hall in Kanchpur’s Sonapur on Monday night. While welding was being done, an explosion occurred due to a leak in the nearby gas main line, resulting in the workers being burned.
Confirming the incident, Dr Shawon Bin Rahman, a resident doctor at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, said: "Seven people from Kanchpur, Sonargaon have been admitted here with burn injuries. Treatment is ongoing."
