The 9-km elevated expressway connecting Muktarpur in Munshiganj with Panchabati in Narayanganj may open to traffic in mid-December, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Shaikh Robiul Alam said on Thursday.
Speaking to journalists after inspecting the elevated expressway project, the minister further said construction was progressing satisfactorily, with work underway to meet the deadline.
Once operational, the expressway is expected to improve connectivity between Munshiganj, Narayanganj, and surrounding areas, making travel safer and more convenient.
Responding to demands for a toll waiver or reduced tolls on the Muktarpur Bridge, the minister said toll collection followed the applicable policies, but the local representative’s demand would be considered seriously.
He also said the government planned to strengthen road safety and discipline on highways by introducing artificial intelligence-powered cameras and modern surveillance systems.
