Two Bangladeshi youths have been killed after allegedly being shot by the Indian Khasi people from Indian territory near a bordering area of Companyganj upazila in Sylhet.

According to sources of Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) and police, the incident took place near the Main Pillar (Pillar Number 125) of the Kalairag border of Uttar Ranikhai Union in the upazila, about 800 yards inside Bangladesh, around 6pm on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Ali Hossain, 30, son of late Fozor Ali of the Kalairag area of the upazila, and Kaosar Ahmed, 25, son of late Sundar Ali.

Syedur Rahman, a member of the media wing of the BGB-48 battalion, said that he had heard about the death of the two Bangladeshis at the border.

The area is very remote, which is delaying the collection of information, he added.

Golam Dastagir Ahmed, officer-in-charge, of Companyganj Police Station, said that the two were killed while collecting fuel wood from the border area.

They have heard that several others have been injured in the firing incident, said Md Foizur Rahman, UP chairman of Ranikhai union.

The bodies are lying at the scene of the incident, he added.
