The Intern Doctors’ Council of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital on Wednesday called off their indefinite strike after the hospital authority assured them of taking proper measures to ensure their safety.
This strike was called to protest against the assaults of intern doctors and vandalizing hospital rooms over the death of a patient.
Dr Simanto Mazumder, the general secretary of the Intern Doctors’ Council of the hospital, said: "On assurance of the authorities, we withdrew the program. We will resume our work at 3pm according to our shifts."
Mahbubur Rahman Bhuiyan, the director of MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital said: “Their demands included making the workplace safe.We talked with the Ansar personnel in charge of the hospital. In addition, we have discussed stepping up the hospital's security with the Ansar district commander.We will be addressing certain safety concerns and modifying the system.”
Intern doctors of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital called a strike on Monday after they were threatened and harassed by the relatives of a patient.
The patient died while undergoing treatment in ward no 35 of the hospital on Monday afternoon.
The relatives of the patient claimed he died due to lack of proper treatment.
According to intern doctors, after the relatives allegedly had an altercation with intern doctors and nurses, they started harassing the on-duty doctors and nurses and later vandalized the rooms of that ward.
