Intern doctors staged protests in different districts across the country on Sunday, demanding the implementation of their six-point charter.
The protest was organized in opposition to recent decisions made by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS), which doctors and medical students claim are detrimental to the medical profession.
In Bogra, intern doctors began an indefinite work stoppage at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, aligning with a nationwide movement led by the Bangladesh Coordinated Intern Doctors Unity Council.
The protesters also organized a rally and human chain on the hospital premises to press home their demands.
Key demands include the cancellation of a controversial policy concerning the placement of private FCPS Part-I trainees, reduction of admission and examination fees at BMU and BCPS, and an increase in intern allowances to at least Tk 30,000 per month.
In Tangail, medical students and intern doctors staged a protest demanding the cancellation of the proposed ordinance of the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS) and the implementation of their six-point demands.
The demonstrators gathered in front of the administrative building of Tangail Medical College and held a protest rally. They later brought out a procession that marched through different roads of the campus before concluding with a gathering in front of the main gate of Tangail Medical College Hospital.
Among those who addressed the rally were medical students G.R. Naim, Joha, Ahnaf Tamim, and intern doctor Bishwajit Sarkar.
In Rangpur, intern doctors launched an indefinite strike from 1:00 pm on Sunday. The strike was being observed under the banner of the Intern Doctors' Association.
Intern doctors brought out a silent procession from Rangpur Medical College and marched to the front of the hospital, where they held a rally. Speaking at the gathering, Rangpur Intern Doctors' Association President Dr. Miraj said the strike would continue until their demands are met.
In Faridpur, intern doctors staged a human chain and observed a work stoppage to press for the implementation of their six-point demand.
The human chain was organized at the premises of Faridpur Medical College Hospital, with participation from intern doctors, trainee physicians, and medical students.
Among those who addressed the gathering were Dr. A.S.M. Rashidul Islam, Dr. Sadia Prottasha, Dr. Mostafizur Rahman, and Dr. C.R. Mashiel Alif, among others.
