KMCH intern doctors suspend strike after three days

  • Two people arrested over Monday’s clash
  • Some 14-15 students were injured during the incident

The intern doctors of Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) have called off their work abstention over a clash that took place between medicine traders and students on Monday.

The strike was suspended on Thursday after police arrested two people over the incident.

announced the suspension of their program through a statement. 

According to the statement, the program has been suspended considering the sufferings of the people and on the assurance of the Khulna city mayor. 

Earlier on Thursday, police arrested two people over the incident in Khulna’s Boyra area.

The arrestees have been identified as Biplob Pharmacy owner SM Mahmudar Rahman Biplob, 30, and Abid Pharmacy employee Mir Bayazid, 20, Sonadanga Model police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Momtazul Haque said.

The investigating officer of the case, Inspector (Investigation) Nahid Hasan Mridha, said that a case was filed at Sonadanga Model police station on Wednesday following the application of the secretary of the medical college.

On Monday, Hasan Ferdous, a medical college student, went to Biplob Medicine Corner in front of KMCH to buy medicines. 

At one point, shop owner Biplob insulted him. Later, Hasan went back to the campus and informed other students about the matter. The students went to the drug store, and a clash ensued between them and the medicine traders.

Some 14-15 students were injured in the attack.
