The workers have warned of a full-day shutdown from Thursday if their demands are not met

Update : 03 Dec 2025, 12:00 PM

Medical technologists and pharmacists at 15 upazila health complexes and several hospitals in Chittagong observed a work stoppage on Wednesday, in line with a nationwide strike demanding implementation of the 10th grade.

The strike began at 8am and continued until noon. The workers have warned of a full-day shutdown from Thursday if their demands are not met.

Health services at government hospitals have been disrupted, leaving patients struggling to access essential diagnostic and pharmacy services.

The strike was also observed at the Sitakunda Upazila Health Complex.

Md Yunus Khan, a medical technologist (lab) at the health complex, said: “We have been victims of discrimination for decades. Diploma holders with similar qualifications were placed in the 10th grade long ago, but we were left out. Our file is now with the Ministry of Public Administration, but it is still being delayed.”

“Our movement will continue until the notification is issued,” he added.
