Intern doctors at Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) have been on strike demanding an increase in salaries and allowances as part of a central program.
The strike, ongoing since March 25 in Barisal, has disrupted the hospital's normal operations, affecting patients seeking medical treatment.
While some interns are present in certain wards, the majority are not working at the hospital, participating in the strike.
Hospital authorities claimed that patient care had not been significantly impacted as other doctors continued to fulfil their duties.
However, patients expressed concerns about delays in receiving medical attention, despite assurances from hospital staff that doctors were available.
Nurses on duty reported increased pressure due to the strike of intern doctors, affecting the overall workload.
Dr Saiful Islam, the hospital director, noted that despite the strike by interns, professors and associate professors were maintaining medical services to minimize disruptions.
