Fatulla fire: Burn survivor gives birth to a boy

The mother will be sent to ICU while the child is kept in NICU of DMCH, says resident surgeon

Burn survivor Kulsum Begum, who was severely injured along with her three-year-old son in an explosion from a gas line in Narayanganj's Masdair area on Sunday evening, gave birth to a boy on Monday. 

Kulsum Begum gave birth at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery through a caesarean operation, said Resident Surgeon Dr SM Ayub Hossain. 

Kulsum sill be taken to the intensive care unit (ICU) from the operation theatre and the child is kept in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), he added. 

Kulsum's uncle, Md Kauser Ahmed, also confirmed the news.

Kulsum and her 3-year-old son suffered burn injuries after a gas line exploded in the Masdair area of Fatulla on Sunday evening. 

The incident took place at around 6:30pm on the sixth floor of a building named MS Tower. 

They were rescued from the flat and sent to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in critical condition.

Initially, it is believed that the explosion occurred from gas as firefighters found the presence of gas in the flat.
