A 21-year-old woman was killed on Thursday near the Turag Metro Rail Station in the capital after she was injured while dragged down from her rickshaw by snatchers.

The woman, Mukta Akter, wife of Limon Hossain, lived in a rented house in the Faydabad area of Uttara.

Her husband, Limon, shared that they had gone to a tailor shop together earlier that morning to pick up clothes. Mukta left shortly after to finish some Eid shopping.

According to the police and family members, Mukta was heading toward the Uttara House Building market for some shopping.

When the rickshaw reached the area between the Uttara South Metro stations, snatchers in a private car pulled at the vanity bag she was holding. Mukta lost her balance, fell from the moving rickshaw, and sustained a severe head injury.

Following the accident, she was first rushed to Bangladesh Medical College, then moved to Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital, and later to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation.

Finally, she was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors pronounced her dead at approximately 1:45 PM.

Limon expressed his grief, noting that Mukta was very excited to celebrate the upcoming Eid at her father's home in Barguna. She was on her way to buy the final necessities for that trip when she was attacked.

"The snatchers killed her. I want justice," he said.

Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH Police Camp, confirmed that the body is currently at the hospital morgue.

Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Turag Police Station, stated that they were investigating the incident and conducting drives to identify and arrest those involved in the crime.
