Some 601 case documents have gone missing due to the negligence of the assistant counsel for the three states in Rajshahi Judicial Court 4.
Muhuri Hossain Ali, assistant counsel, has filed a case at the Kashiadanga police station in Rajshahi.
Meanwhile, case proceedings at the court being hampered due to the missing important documents.
Among the stolen documents, 70 in Mohanpur police station, 42 in Bagha, 60 in Durgapur, 81 in Bagmara, 72 in Puthia, 112 in Tanore, 83 in Charghat, and 81 in Godagari police station. It also contained important documents of 181 settled cases.
Related sources said that on March 24, last year, all the documents for 601 cases filed in 8 police stations in Rajshahi district in connection with drugs and assault were stolen. Two days after this incident, a case was filed at the Kashiadanga police station of the city.
Police provided all the case documents to the assistant counsels of the three states, Jalal Uddin, Bazlur Rahman, and Sohail Akhter Dana, of Rajshahi Judicial Court-4 for conducting the trial work.
Later, the assistant counsel for the state side allowed all the documents to be kept by Muhuri Hossain Ali.
Admitting this, Muhuri Hossain Ali said: “I took the documents and kept them in the stairwell of my house. Then 601 case documents were stolen from there.”
Jalal Uddin said: “There is a disturbance in the management of the cases. There is no proper system for keeping records.”
Rajshahi Bar Association General Secretary Parvez Tawfiq Zahidi said: “The investigating officer made this note book during the case. If these are gone then it's definitely a problem. The loss of such important documents is alarming.”
Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Commissioner Anisur Rahman said: "The incident happened in Kashiadanga police station area of the city. The matter is being investigated.”
A four-member investigation committee headed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) Kashiadanga Zone Vibhuti Bhushan has been formed in this regard. The inquiry committee has been asked to submit its report within three working days.
