The Department of Environment (DoE) has removed and destroyed 226 hydraulic horns installed on different vehicles in its bid to combat noise pollution in Chittagong.
The agency seized the horns during raids in Hathazari upazila and Chittagong city on Thursday.
A mobile court led by Hillol Biswas, director of the DoE, Chittagong metropolitan office, conducted the raid in the City Gate area of the metropolis.
At the time, a fine of Tk55,500 was collected in 32 cases. A total of 51 hydraulic horns were seized and later destroyed. Leaflets were also distributed to increase awareness.
Besides, another mobile court with the help of Hathazari police conducted a drive in Nandir Hat area.
At this time, a fine of Tk11,000 was collected in four cases. A total of 175 hydraulic horns were seized and destroyed in the operation.
