A four-tier security plan has been made for the Victory Day, the Golden Jubilee of Independence and the birth centenary of Bangabandhu

Tight security measures have been taken across the country to prevent any untoward incidents during the celebrations of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Victory Day, and the Golden Jubilee of Independence.

"A four-tier security plan has been made for the Victory Day, the Golden Jubilee of Independence and the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman," Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mohammad Shafiqul Islam said during a press briefing at the South Plaza of the National Parliament.

Additional law enforcement personnel have been deployed to strengthen surveillance, especially in Dhaka, considering the global situation and various domestic issues, he added.

The four-tier security measures include the President's Guard Regiment (PGR), Detective Branch of Police, the Special Security Force (SSF), and Armed Police Battalion (APBb). Each venue for the celebrations will be swept by the Special Branch of Police, SSF, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), and DMP dog squads.

Members of the law enforcement agencies will be deployed both in uniform and plain clothes in every multi-storey building in the vicinity of the parliament building, he said, adding that the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit and bomb disposal unit will remain vigilant round the clock to thwart any unwanted incidents.

Security personnel will set up check posts at different points in Dhaka, including the diplomatic zones, for the Victory Day celebrations. Law enforcement officials will also be on alert at key areas of the capital.

Security checkpoints will be set up and security personnel will patrol to ensure security at Victory Day events, he said.

Security will be tightened at the premises of national parade ground as many foreign dignitaries will join attend events there on the occasion of Victory Day, he continued.

The DMP commissioner said block raids are being carried out on suspicious residential hotels, multi-storied buildings, messes, halls, and houses ahead of the celebrations.

Meanwhile, he asked students who are participating in the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination this year to leave their houses for exams early on Wednesday as the additional security measures may cause some disruption to traffic.
