Two businesses including a Bata showroom were fined for selling adulterated baby food and overpriced shoes in Barisal on Wednesday.

The Department of National Consumer Rights Protection carried out the raid at a factory based on specific allegations of food adulteration.

At that time, factory owner Mohammad Jewel Talukder was fined Tk25,000 for producing fake baby food using the logo of another company in the Gabtala area.

Shah Shoyeb Mia, assistant director of the DNCRP (Barisal), confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

On the other hand, a showroom of Bata has been fined Tk30,000 for placing a fake price tag on the previous one with more price.

According to the DNCRP, a buyer named Probir Kumar Das purchased shoes worth Tk990 from a Bata showroom in the city's Chawk Bazar area.

After taking it home, he noticed two stickers fitted on the price tag with a difference of Tk100.

The allegation was found to be true when the department went to investigate the store.

During the operation, the on-duty officer of the Bata showroom, Mirza Farhad, apologized for imposing the tag twice. He, however, claimed that it happened mistakenly.
