It will not be possible to resume in-person classes in schools and colleges in the beginning of next year, says Education Minister Dipu Moni.
“We are still trying to bring all students under the vaccination program,” she said while speaking to the media in Chandpur on Tuesday.
The minister was visiting the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exam centre at the district town’s Hassan Ali High School.
She said that the eight-month delay in the SSC and equivalent exams will be adjusted next year but it is likely there will be some delays.
The SSC and equivalent exams, the first public test in schools in nearly 20 months, started across the country on Sunday.
Over 2.2 million students are taking the exams in a reduced syllabuses of three elective subjects.
This year, students will be graded on compulsory and fourth subjects through subject mapping.
The school-leaving exams are usually held in February every year, but the tests for this year have been delayed as educational institutions have been shut since March last year after the Covid-19 pandemic unfolded.
With the pandemic situation improving, educational institutions were reopened in a limited scale in September this year.
