Covid-19: Five more dead in RMCH corona unit

Rajshahi records the highest deaths in 24 hours after detection of Omicron

Five people died while undergoing treatment at the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) Covid-19 unit between 9am on Wednesday and 9am on Thursday. 


Among the deceased, three were male and two were female. Two of them were over 61 years old, two were between 51 to 60 years old and one was 21 to 30 years old. 


RMCH has recorded the highest number of single-day deaths after the detection of Omicron infection in the country. 


Earlier, three people died between 9am on Tuesday and 9am on Wednesday at the hospital’s Covid-19 unit. 


According to RMCH Director Brigadier General Shamim Yazdani, one patient died of corona infection in the last 24 hours while three more died of symptoms. One other died in the ward while undergoing treatment.


As many as 65 patients have been admitted in the 146-bed RMCH Covid-19 unit till 9am on Thursday. 


Among them, 39 are confirmed Covid cases while 18 have been admitted with  symptoms. In the 24 hours, a total of 23 patients recovered and left the hospital. 


Meanwhile, on Wednesday night 92 samples out of 186 tested positive for corona at RMCH lab. 


In the lab the test positivity rate stands at 41.97%.
