The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has started an investigation into the attack on the motorcade of BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in Chittagong.
A team of PBI led by its Divisional Special Superintendent of Police Zulfiqur Ali Haider visited the spot of the attack on Sunday and talked to the locals regarding the incident.
The motorcade carrying a BNP delegation came under an attack at Shantirhat of Rangunia upazila on June 18. The delegation was going to Rangamati to visit the landslide victims.
Confirming the visit, Zulfiqur Ali Haider told the Dhaka Tribune they hope to complete the investigation within the stipulated time.
However, he did not elaborate on the findings for the sake of investigation.

A case and a counter case were filed over the attack on Fakhrul’s motorcade.
On June 21, Joint Convener of Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum Advocate Enamul Haque filed a case with Chittagong Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate ASM Shahidulla’s court.
Twenty-six people were named while 25 to 30 others were unnamed in the case.
The plaintiff of the case said that all the attackers are residents of Rangunia upazila and all of them are involved with the politics of the ruling party.
The court asked PBI to investigate the case and submit a report by July 18.Md Mohsin, son of Nurul Alam of Ichhakhali in Rangunia upazila, filed a counter case with the same court the following day.
His counsel Nikhil Kumar Nath claimed that the motorcade hit two people including the plaintiff while crossing Rangunia Upazila Health Complex. The two were later admitted to the health complex.
Twenty-six people, including BNP Rangunia upazila unit President Shawkat Ali Noor, were implicated in the case along with 10-15 unnamed persons.

The case was filed under Section 4 and 5 of the Law and order Disruption (Speedy Trial) (Amendment) Act 2014.
Later, the court ordered the PBI to investigate both the cases.
