Customs officials have detained a Dubai-bound passenger with foreign currencies worth Tk42 lakh at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong.
The detainee identified as Rakibul Islam was scheduled to fly to Dubai on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight on Tuesday night.
Customs Assistant Commissioner Md Musa Khan confirmed the matter.
Tipped off, the customs officials challenged the passenger and recovered 33,900 US dollars and 42,000 UAE Dirham from his possession.
The currencies are equivalent to Tk42 lakh, the officials said.
Passengers can legally take Tk10 lakh abroad through endorsement in their passports.
The detainee was handed over to Patenga police station.
