Jessore juvie centre murders: 7 young inmates shown arrested

Five officials of the centre have also been arrested

7 youths at the Jessore juvenile correctional centre were arrested on Sunday in a case filed for the deaths of their three fellow inmates inside the centre.

All of the arrested are below the age of 18.

Inspector Rokibuzzaman, investigation officer of the case, submitted a petition with Senior Judicial Magistrate Saifuddin Hussain’s Court in Jessore to show them arrested in the case.

Earlier on Friday evening, Roka Miah, father of the deceased Parvez, filed the case with Kotwali police station in Jessore, accusing unnamed people of causing the death.

After a primary investigation, a total of 12 people- five officials and seven youths of the correctional centre- were found to be involved in the murder.

The five correctional officials are: Abdullah Al Masud, the superintendent of the correction centre; Masum Billah, assistant superintendent; Mushfiqur Rahman, psychosocial counselor; Shahanur Alom, physical instructor; and Omar Faruk, technical instructor.

Abdullah Al Masud, Masum Billah, and Shahanur Alom were placed on a five-day remand, while Mushfiqur Rahman and Omar Faruk were placed on a three-day remand.

On Thursday, the accused inflicted excruciating torture on a number of youths of the centre, leaving three of them dead and 15 injured. The deceased were identified as Parvez Hasan Rabbi, Rasel alias Sujon, and Nayeem Hossain.
