Police arrested four people on Saturday in connection with an attack, looting and vandalism at the Radda MCH-FP Centre, a low-cost healthcare facility in Mirpur, Dhaka.
Shah Ali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Jahangir Alam confirmed the arrests on Saturday, saying the suspects were detained from different parts of the capital.
The incident took place around midnight on Thursday at the Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur Section-1. The following day, the clinic’s Executive Director Nasrin Akhtar filed a case with Shah Ali Police Station.
The case names Hanif Mia as an accused and includes around 250 unidentified individuals.
According to clinic authorities, more than 200 masked individuals entered the facility after holding security guards hostage. They allegedly looted medical equipment, medicines, government vaccines, cash and other valuables.
The authorities also claimed that the attackers used heavy machinery to demolish one concrete building and three semi-permanent structures on the premises after the looting.
They estimated the total damage caused by the attack, looting and vandalism at around Tk 15 million.
The clinic further alleged that a signboard bearing the name “Somomona Dokandar Samity Ltd” was installed at the site after the attack.
It also claimed that police were present at the scene during the incident but did not take immediate action.
Following the incident, law enforcement agencies increased their security presence around the Radda MCH-FP Centre.
