The vice-president of the Bangladesh Nationalist Cyber Party has been arrested in connection with the vandalism, looting and demolition of the Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur-1.
The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Sazzad Hossain Mishu Molla, during a raid in the Mirpur area on Saturday.
Mohammad Rakib Khan, deputy commissioner of the DB-Mirpur division, told Dhaka Tribune that Mishu Molla was arrested over his alleged involvement in the incident and that further legal proceedings were underway.
Police said Mishu Molla is a former founding committee member of the Shah Ali thana unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and currently serves as vice-president of the Bangladesh Nationalist Cyber Party.
The Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur-1 was attacked, vandalized and looted in the early hours of September 25. The health centre was also demolished using heavy machinery, and its belongings were looted.
A total of 17 people have so far been arrested over the incident, according to police.
Meanwhile, BNP reserved-seat lawmaker Ferdousi Ahmed Mishty was directed to resign by Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman over her alleged involvement in the incident. She later submitted her resignation to the speaker at the National Parliament Building on Thursday.
