The officer-in-charge (OC) of Rajoir police station in Madaripur has been withdrawn and attached to Madaripur police lines on Tuesday after locals protested against his alleged misbehaviour.
Khandoker Shawkat Jahan, the OC, was attached to police lines as an Ordinary Reserved (OR) officer. No one else has been selected in his place yet as in-charge of the police station, said Madaripur Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Md Abdul Hannan.
"We have attached him as part of regular police proceedings. There was no special reason for this decision," said ASP Hannan.
Locals in Rajoir upazila have been protesting for the past few days with forming human chains as allegations surfaced against Shawkat for his misbehaviour.
Shwakat reportedly held a lawyer by force at his police station, and had an argument with the wife of the Rajoir municipality mayor.
Protesters claimed that he took and held innocent traders at the police station during the shutdown in effect due to Covid-19.
