Gono Forum MP Mokabbir, who attended budget session, tests Covid-19 positive

On Monday, Mokabbir was admitted to the CMH with fever, cough and breathing problems

Gono Forum MP Mokabbir Khan, who was admitted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Dhaka on Monday with breathing problems, has tested positive for coronavirus.

He is  now receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the CMH, Mokabbir’s personal secretary Mohammad Koyes Miah told UNB on Tuesday.

Mokabbir was present in the budget hearing recently in the parliament.

Koyes said Mokabbir received the Covid-19 test report on Tuesday, confirming that he contracted the virus.

He, however, said the MP’s condition has improved slightly as he has been given oxygen support. “His breathing problem eased slightly.”

On Monday, Mokabbir was admitted to the CMH with fever, cough and breathing problems.

Soon after his admission, the MP’s samples were collected at the CMH for coronavirus test.

Mokabbir Khan was elected as a lawmaker from Sylhet 2 with Gono Forum’s ticket in the last general election. He took oath as a member of the 11th Parliament on April, 2019.

In 26 years' history of Gono Forum, Mokabbir is the only leader of the party who became MP with its ticket and symbol.

As of Tuesday, a total of 11 parliament members have tested positive for Covid-19, and they are (except Mokabbir), Liberation War Affairs Minister and Gazipur 1 MP AKM Mozammel Haque, Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs Minister and Bandarban MP Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing, Naogaon 2 MP Shahiduzzaman Sarker, Chittagong 6 MP ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury, Jessore 4 MP Ranajit Kumar Roy, Jamalpur 2 MP Faridul Haque Khan Dulal, Brahmanbaria 5 MP Mohammad Ebadul Karim Bulbul, Chittagong 8 Moslem Uddin Ahmed, Chittagong 16 MP Mustafizur Rahaman Chowdhury, and former health minister and lawmaker from Sirajganj 1 constituency Mohammed Nasim, who died from the deadly virus on Saturday.

All of the aforementioned lawmakers are of the ruling party.
