Md Aslam Hossain, the deputy commissioner of Kushtia, has tested positive for the Covid-19, the disease caused by a new coronavirus strain that has so far killed over 800 people in Bangladesh.
Confirming the matter, civil surgeon Dr HM Anwarul Islam, said: "The deputy commissioner along with 7 people tested positive for the virus in the district on Saturday."
Their samples were tested at the PCR lab of Kushtia Medical College, added the civil surgeon
The district's executive magistrate Ahmed Sadat said, "DC Aslam is in home quarantine and doing well."
Until Saturday, 111 people have so far tested positive for the novel coronavirus in Kushtia.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh has reported 2,635 new cases in the last 24 hours, taking the number of confirmed cases to 63,026, while 35 more patients died from the virus during the same period, raising the death toll to 846.
