BCL leaders vandalize Narail Public Works Department office

The accused leaders are Asrafuzzaman Mukul, former president of Bangladesh Chhatra League Narail district unit, and its former general secretary, Niloy Roy

Two former local leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League on Monday reportedly vandalized the local Public Works Department office in Narail when the office refused to submit to extortion.

The accused leaders are Asrafuzzaman Mukul, former president of Bangladesh Chhatra League Narail district unit, and its former general secretary, Niloy Roy.

According to sources, Mukul and Niloy on Monday had an altercation with executive engineer Md Nahid Parvez regarding a health department tender at the Public Works Department office.

Head Clerk Habibur Rahman brought the two to his room to calm things down, when the two ended up  demanding Tk5 lakh. Since Habibur did not agree to give the money, Mukul and Niloy vandalized his office.

Contacted, former president of Narail BCL, Asrafuzzaman Mukul, denied the allegations.

Regarding the matter, Md Nahid Parvez, executive engineer of Narail Public Works Department, said: "A General Diary (GD) was filed in this regard.

Police will take legal action, said Md Iliash Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Narail Sadar police station.
