Police on Sunday arrested a local Sramik League leader in a case filed for an attempted land grab in Kathaltola of Ashulia in Savar.
The arrested identified as Akbar Mridha is president of the regional committee of Jubo league in Ashulia, said Ashulia police station Inspector Jabed Masud.
Jabed said the accused Akbar and his henchmen went on Sunday morning to Kathaltola to occupy the land of one Kamruzzaman. When Kamruzzaman's caretaker Abu Taher tried to stop Akbar, he was beaten up severely.
When locals started protesting the incident, Akbar and his henchmen left the scene. Later, Kamruzzaman filed a case against Akbar for attempting to grab land.
