Indefinite strike by transport workers underway in Sunamganj

Transport workers of Sumanganj district are observing an indefinite transport strike called by Sylhet District Transport Workers' Union across the Sylhet division from Sunday morning to press home their five-point demand. Long-distance minibus and district buses stayed off the roads owing to the strike, causing passengers distress, said witnesses. Transport Workers' Union sources said that they were raising demand for withdrawal of all cases filed against their transport workers, cancellation of the registration of trade union of the president of Sramik League, and a ban on motor-cycle riding on Sylhet-Companiganj route immediately. The people of the district were suffering a lot due to the strike DHAKA TRIBUNEHowever, CNG-run auto rickshaws and human haulers did not take part in the strike considering the suffering of flood-hit people of the district. Locals alleged that flood-affected people of the district are suffering because of the strike. They also requested the workers’ leaders to call off the strike taking into consideration their misery. But transport workers leaders are strict about their demands. They claimed to observe the strike until their demands have been fulfilled.
