Police in Dinajpur have traced a suspected coronavirus patient who fled from a hospital in Pabna.
Twenty-five-year-old Mostak Al Mamun has been kept in quarantine at his home at the northern district’s Hakimpur (Hili) upazila, local police said on Thursday.
On April 5, Mamun went to Pabna, where his in-laws live. He was admitted to the isolation unit of the state-run hospital in the district town after relatives reported to police of his coronavirus-like symptoms.
“We were tipped-off over one Mostak Al Mamun, who had fled from the Pabna General Hospital’s isolation unit. He was detained around 6pm from his home at the Khottamadhobpara village in Hili,” said OC Abdur Razzak of the Hakimpur police.
Mamun’s house has been locked down along with his family members after consulting with the Upazila administration chief, said the police officer.
“A team of village police has been deployed at the house to ensure the 14-day mandatory home-quarantine,” he added.
Bangladesh has so far, reported 21 deaths and confirmed 330 coronavirus cases, with 112 new cases reported on Thursday, by far the biggest single-day surge since the first three were reported on March 8.
