A pregnant woman lost her unborn child being a victim of an attack at Mostofapur Ukilbari area in Sadar upazila.
The woman Jitu Akter, 25, gave birth to a stillborn baby after an operation in the Prattasha Private Hospital early Saturday.
Dr Eliza of the hospital, said: "We found the baby dead after the operation. Serious injuries in the mother's womb caused the death."
Razu Hawlader, the father of the baby said: "I took a loan from my cousin Zahir Hawlader by mortgaging my motorbike, and on condition that I would pay him additional money as interest.
"A few days later I took back my motorbike paying the loans but had not paid the interest. On Friday night, Zahir led an attack with his men at my house and injured my family over such a trivial matter.
"My child died in this attack. I want exemplary justice served to the perpetrators"
Razu, his mother and two of his brothers were also injured in the attack. All the injured apart from the pregnant woman were rushed to Madaripur Sadar Hospital after the attack. Razu's mother was transferred to the Faridpur Medical College Hospital when her condition deteriorated.
Zahir Hawlader could not be reached for comment when contacted over the phone and he was also unavailable at his house.
Madaripur Additional Superintendent of Police Md Badrul Alam Molla, said: "I have talked with the injured in the hospital. Necessary action will be taken after a written complaint is filed."
