A two and half year old infant died reportedly due to the negligence of the on-duty doctor at a local Ishurdi hospital on Monday night in Pabna.

The deceased, Madinatul Akhter Mohona, was brought to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex very sick, around 9am on Monday.

Mohona's father, Mintu Mirza, said when his ailing daughter's condition deteriorated in the evening and the emergency ward duty doctor neglected the repeated requests to do something about it.

He said: "My daughter had high fever, she was vomiting a lot with loose stool and blood, but the doctor of the emergency ward did nothing about it. Not even a nurse came to my daughter’s aid.

"My daughter died neglected by the doctor. I demand justice and the people responsible should be held accountable,  so that no parents lose their children because of irresponsibility."

Dr Tasnim Tamanna Shwarna, the emergency ward duty-doctor said: "Several posts for doctors at the Upazila Health Complex are unoccupied. I have tried my best to provide treatment inspite of various limitations (of the hospital)."

"The child died of diarrhoea due to extreme heat and food poisoning. We were not negligent in treating her," she added.
