The rail communications of Sylhet with other parts of the country, including the capital, resumed on Sunday afternoon after six hours of suspension following the derailment of a engine and compartment of a train at Rashidpur railway station in Habiganj.
Saiful Islam, station master of Shaistaganj railway station, said:“The train communications were restored five hours after two compartments of Sylhet-bound Kushiara Express’ veered off the tracks around 10am, halting train movement.”
Dhaka-bound Jayantika Express from Sylhet was stranded at Sreemangal railway station while Sylhet-bound Parabat Express from Dhaka was stuck at Sayestaganj railway station following the derailment.
Shafiqul Islam, in-charge of Shaistaganj railwaypolice, said the train communications resumed after a relief train from Akhaura railway station went to the spot and salvaged the derailed bogies.
