  • The railway authorities resumed their operations

Train communications between Dhaka and other parts of the country were restored after nearly five hours as quota protestors withdrew the blockade on Wednesday afternoon.

Fardous Ahmed Biswas, officer-in-charge of Kamalapur Railway Police Station, said the rail service was snapped after some students blocked the level crossing around 12pm.

The students cleared the rail track at Karwan Bazar level crossing at 5pm, said the OC.

Later, the railway authorities resumed their operations.

Students from various educational institutions blocked several roads and railways from the morning of the third day of the Bangla Blockade program.

Around 12pm, they were seen protesting by placing wooden logs on the Karwan Bazar railway gate and Mohakhali rail crossing, halting train communications between Dhaka and the rest of the country.

For the third consecutive day, students demanding the cancellation of quotas in government jobs held their Bangla Blockade program, severely disrupting transportation and daily life across Dhaka.

The unrest follows a recent ruling by the Appellate Division, which issued a one-month stay on the High Court’s verdict invalidating the decision to cancel the freedom fighter quota system in the first and second class of government jobs.

Despite this stay, the quota opponents have rejected the order and vowed to continue their agitation.
