Naripokkho, a women's activist organization, on Sunday, observed the 'International Protest Day against Repression of Women',by organizing protest rallies all across the country.

The organization observed the day in 55 districts including Dhaka. They held a demonstration with various placards in front of their Dhaka central office in Dhanmondi from 4pm to 5pm.

This year's theme was ' Security for Women's Independent Movement.'Placards with slogans like; "I want to walk the streets at night without fear", "Night or Day we are also liberal", "Stand against women repression" were seen being held by the organizing activists in front of their office.

Similarly, outside Dhaka, associate organizations held anti-violence programs in 54 district cities.

Women in everyday life are faced with difficulties when they want to break out of their designated roles in societies and families. These restrictions usually result in harassments or assaults. For ages, women battled these challenges and broke free.

Despite proving their skills, knowledge and qualifications to the world, women still cannot lead a liberal life. Attacks and threats are bullying women into being frightened of their safety: in the workplace, on the streets and even in their homes.

Under Article -1 of The Universal Declaration of Human Rights it says: "All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights." Freedom of movement is an essential part of this right.

This is the reason why Naripokkho is demanding the rights for women across the country. They believe it is the state's responsibility to provide security to women's freedom of movement.

Naripokkho is a membership-based women's activist organization in Bangladesh working since 1983 for the advancement of women's rights and entitlements and building resistance against violence, discrimination and injustice.

The organization has been working towards gender equality from the beginning of its inception.
