A man has been killed in a gas cylinder explosion while lighting his cigarette in Kapasia area of Gazipur. The incident, which occurred on Friday evening, left seven others injured.
The deceased, Engineer Masud Rana, 37, died on the spot around 7:30pm in Rishipara intersection.
Quoting witnesses, Gazipur Fire Service Deputy Director Akhtaruzzaman said: “Rana suffered serious burn injuries, and died on the spot after a gas cylinder exploded as he was lighting a cigarette at a shop.
“Two units of fire service later visited the scene and doused the flames after an hour of effort.”
The explosion had shut down traffic on Kapasia-Monohardi for an hour. The injured are undergoing treatment at Kapasia Upazila Health Complex.
Speaking to the Dhaka Tribune, health complex physician Mamunur Rahman said: “The engineer had died of his injuries before he was brought to the hospital. Other victims suffered 15-20% burns on their bodies, but their condition is stable.”
